Hemp CBD: Myth Vs. Fact

Hemp CBD: Myth vs. Fact

Hemp CBD products are becoming ubiquitous on the shelves of health food stores nationwide, and as they do, more information has become available online for people interested in trying out the products.

However, it can be difficult to tell the difference between valuable, confirmed information about industrial hemp, CBD, and CBD oil, and unreliable or unfounded claims made by the uninformed. There are several myths and misconceptions about what hemp CBD is, how it works, and how it relates to all of us.

Let’s take a look at a few facts about hemp and set the record straight.

1. Hemp CBD Oil is Actually Medical Marijuana!

Cannabis, marijuana, and hemp are often confused. Here are some simple definitions of each:

  • Cannabis is a plant family that includes many species, including both hemp and medical cannabis strains.
  • Hemp is a variety of cannabis grown for its low THC levels. In the United States, industrial hemp is required by law to contain less than 0.3% THC.
  • Medical cannabis refers to a variety of cannabis strains grown for its high THC levels

Medical and recreational cannabis, commonly referred to as “marijuana” refers to only specific forms of cannabis. Medical and recreational cannabis strains are cultivated specifically to enhance its THC content for medical or recreational use, and this type of cannabis is subject to dozens of strict regulations and is currently legal in a limited number of states.

Because hemp is not cultivated for its THC levels, which differentiates it when you look at CBD vs. THC. Hemp CBD can enhance your health and do so without any intoxicating effects.

Final Verdict: False. Medical or recreational cannabis (marijuana) and industrial hemp are not the same thing. Industrial hemp has only (tiny) trace amounts of THC, the psychoactive element present in medical and recreational varieties of cannabis.

2. Hemp CBD Oils Are Psychoactive Drugs!

Stated simply, hemp is cannabis that can’t get you "high."

There are is no chance of experiencing any impairing effects when using hemp CBD products, either mental or physical. This is because CBD hemp oils are produced from Cannabis Sativa L. plant that contains no more than 0.3 percent of the psychoactive compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

This percentage of THC is pre-determined by law, and it is far below the threshold for any potential psychoactive effects like you would experience with medical or recreational cannabis. You can use hemp CBD products with no worries whatsoever about intoxicating effects.

Final Verdict: False. Full-spectrum hemp CBD oils contain no more than 0.3% THC Feel free to enjoy the health benefits of hemp without fear: There’s no way to get high off CBD.

3. CBD Products Are Illegal!

The hemp plant is primarily cultivated outside the United States and imported legally to create CBD products for American consumers. Since hemp that is legally imported contains extremely low (almost absent) levels of THC, hemp CBD products can be a great solution for consumers who are interested in seeking hemp oil's benefits without the effects of THC and the resulting legal risk.

Hemp products have nothing to do with illegal drugs because of the difference in their chemical makeup, and with the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived CBD will be completely separate from the Controlled Substances Act. Today, hemp is used in the manufacture of many products, including:

  • hemp paper
  • hemp fiber
  • hemp rope
  • and even hemp clothing!

Final Verdict: False. CBD products are legal in the United States, and so are hemp products.

4. Hemp CBD Products Are Not Safe!

In fact, the use of hemp CBD products has been approved and even recommended by a wide variety of health organizations and professionals. In 2017, The World Health Organization concluded that CBD is not harmful, and earlier in 2018, the World Anti-Doping Agency removed it from its prohibited substances list.

A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel has unanimously approved a CBD-derived medication as safe for treatment for two forms of childhood epilepsy, and a growing number of state legislators approve of the use of CBD oil at various concentrations to treat epileptic conditions.

Researchers have found no significant side effects in those who use hemp CBD, even those who use high doses. Just recently, the PlusCBD Oil™ Gold Formula extract became the first ever hemp-derived CBD extract to receive self-affirmed Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status.

Final Verdict: False. CBD products are perfectly safe.
